From [50:5.4-10], civilization advances through:
- nutrition,
- security,
- material comfort and its many excesses,
- the quest for knowledge and wisdom,
- philosophy and brotherhood,
- spiritual striving, and
- light and life.
Civilization will also retrogress if it fails to find true progress under God.
And because ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny, we each individually are called to advance through these stages as well.
