There are three senses of this word used in The Urantia Papers:
- A comprehensive system of ideas—a philosophy—built on the assumption there is only one stuff: material matter/energy. A corrosive, dangerous philosophy that perforce leads us away from God.
- The observation that we are animal-origin creatures who are predicated on material mind and matter. This is not wrong. This is by design. But this natural inclination ttoward the material is what God calls we humans to challenge within ourselves, as we strive for spirit realities.
- The full flower of the material comfort era. Mammon. All the excesses expected in this era. He's so materialistic; he has 5 sports cars.
