Jesus the Tutor (study arc)

Jesus the Tutor was an 18-episode arc covered in 2017 by Symmetry of Soul. It comprises three series covering three papers of The Urantia Book, from Paper 130 through Paper 132, exclusive of Paper 131.

Some Things to Keep in Mind

  • These papers expand on what is given only at-a-glance in [129:2-3]
    • Jesus saw to it his temporal family was cared for. Only Zebedee knew where he went.
    • How Jesus came to meet Gonod and Ganid while in Jerusalem for the Passover.

• Jesus was a 3rd psychic-circle human, walking here on Earth, in these papers.
  • This is before Jesus' baptism. He is fully human, not in that more divine mode yet. This is the human Jesus on display. Just like us.
  • He shows us here what a genuine religious life of a human looks like.
  • A quality of mind that is smooth in its flow, no jagged edges.
  • Someone who is humble, whose self gets out of the way to allow Providence to unfold.
  • Someone who can discriminate a human from a subhuman.
  • Some with whom small interactions give people a meaningful contact with eternity.
    • That's what made Jesus' impact on these people lasting.
  • A renaissance man, literally "born again."
  • None of us should presume we've reached the 3rd psychic circle. Take it easy, cowboy.
    • But we can reflect on his religious life in these papers and humbly try to bring them into our lives.

• More or less distortion of meaning. aka we're gonna need a better dictionary.
  • Personality has two meanings, the influence from eternity or the personalized self (the upper domain of mind)
  • Soul has two meanings, the upper domain of mind (also called the heart), and the literal morontia object that survives the life in the flesh.
  • Logic has two meanings. There is the weak mathematical meaning, and the far more profound meaning where it is the superadditive consequence of reason and faith.
  • Burden and unburden. The two words were used in the same paragraph but don't have the same etymologies whatsoever. Fun times with language! The authors are challenging us to recognize this.
  • Just and fair are not synonyms.
  • Profitable is a higher word than our narrow monetary sense gives it credit for. It's about a lasting experiential acquirement.
  • Aggressive is not a negative word. It implies direction.
  • Meek is not a negative word. It implies non-pridefulness, non-vindictiveness.
  • Friend is a high word.
  • Nice almost never means what you think. Maybe just stop using it.

• Upper and lower concepts
  • Personalized self and the material self. The material self is not to be despised, but we do well for it not to limit us. Don't try to make the material self into the personalized self—you can't. The personalized self is being build by a masterful builder: the Thought Adjuster
  • The upper and lower domains of mind. Two concepts that reasonably parallel to the personalized self and the material self.
  • The inner life and outer life. The inner life is a little-explored philosophic concept in human history. It isn't the dream life, it isn't feelings, it isn't incense, it isn't the feelings produced by listening to Mozart. One way or another, consciously or superconsciously, wittingly or unwittingly, your inner life is being built.
    • In one episode we explained the inner life always dominates the outer life. So we wonder what's in our inner lives.
    • In another episode we explained that the lower domain of mind will not naturally do higher things and it must be compelled.

• Superadditive consequence concepts
  • Philosophy as the superadditive consequence of science and religion.
  • Meanings as the superadditive consequence of things and values.
  • Logic as the superadditive consequence of reason and faith.

• Evil as a disruption of the flow of the unity that permeates all.
  • Maybe that sounds like evil would rarely be seen on Earth by the definition, but no. Jesus encountered several people who had been evil.
  • We all may harbor evil forms in our mind. We should allow ourselves to come into conflict with so good can overcome that evil, let it disrupt us someday.

• A real human should face life bravely an intelligently. That's a definition that clears up centuries of confusion.
• Worth while associates. Jesus spent his time in Rome with worth while people. What do we have to say about our lives, given this? Can we avoid going to extremes, becoming arrogant and self-rioghteously judgmental of others, therefore missing out on being of humble service to others?
• The kairos and chronos of time. Kairos is cosmic time, a relation to the fullness of time as it relates to eternity. Chronos is the wall clock. And time is an appearance, not a reality; it is the chronicity of motion.
