    • Don't always claim authorship. "Sponsor" "Indict" etc...
  • Part IV stands along as the joint work of a commission of 12 (?) people.

Upwards of 1,000 Authors

  • Foreword explains this in its closing paragraph
  • Similar to scientific and philosophic works citing others' ideas
    • Incorporating the ideas, amending the ideas
  • Is it plagiarism?
    • "Of, by and for the people" is in the public domain.
      • No one will accuse of plagiarizing Lincoln if you quote it.
      • No one will let you get away with claiming it's your own.
    • This cosmology shows us our egos should not be attached to so-called invention of ideas
      • Truth is pre-existent and eternal.
      • The authors are consistent with the cosmology they articulate. ("we have FREELY...")

Does It Matter?

  • Melville
    • Not recognized in his time. Only on the centennial of his birth.
  • Twain
    • Suit, cigar, mustache was just his public persona.
    • His work stands on its own
  • Plato
    • Few outside academia read The Republic these days, but its ideas are incorporated everywhere.
